• I say "aluminium", you say "aluminum"...

In this instance it is much more than a transatlantic divide in spelling; when the metallic element was first discovered, it was named "aluminum", the British later added the extra letter to make the name stand out more and therefore sound more "new and interesting".  Whilst both spellings are technically correct, it could easily be argued that the US spelling is more correct as it is the original form.

  • Procol Harum's "Whiter Shade of Pale" and Percy Sledge's "When A Man Loves A Woman" have very similar sounding backing. This is because they both use a method called "Diatonic Elaboration of a Static Harmony", or "DESH" as it is referred to in the music industry. Other famous works that use this method include Air on a G String by JS Bach.

  • Most people have fond memories of the drinking water fountains from their childhood, often from their school days.  In the US State of Wisconsin these are referred to as "Bubblers", a term that appears to be exclusive to this area and not in common use elsewhere in the World. Individuality can be a good thing ;)

  • Fiddler Crabs grow one large claw which serves many purposes. Like all crabs they molt periodically and shed their shells and claws. If a male Fiddler Crab loses his oversize claw (usually through combat), a replacement claw will grow after the next molt but will grow on the opposite side of the body. For this reason some Fiddler Crabs are left-handed and some are right-handed.
